Psyche (1972) [p] +
Weores' verse novel is about two characters, one fictitious and one real. Erzsebet Maria Psyche' Lonyay is a fictional poetess at the beginning of the 19th century, a rebellious woman with a wild erotic life. Weores' novel contains the poetry of this fictional poetess, and her poetry is in the style of romantic poets of the era. This poetess also writes letters and memories in her poetry. On the other hand, Ungvarnemeti was a real poet (and doctor) of the time, and Weores quotes his real poems. Weores also writes a tragedy of Psyche' and Narcissus about the relationship between these two characters, one fictitious and one real. The last chapters of the book are narrated by an actress in 1842, by a literary historian in 1871 and by another historian in 1971 (the year in which Weores wrote the book).
Psyche' is married to Max Zedlitz.
Psyche' represents instinct and primitive culture, Ungvarnemeti represents reason and modern culture.
Note that later Weores compiled an anthology of forgotten poets from the pagan era up to the 19th century: "Harom Vereb hat Szemmel/ Three Sparrows with Six Eyes".
